This guidebook is intended to serve as a guide for planners, engineers and elected officials who will be producing a new or updated bicycle and/or pedestrian master plan. Data for this guide was developed from literature review, case study interviews, and input from staff at Alta Planning + Design.

The Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) provides funding for programs and projects defined as transportation alternatives, including on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility, community improvement activities, and environmental mitigation; recreational trail projects; safe routes to school projects; and projects for planning, designing, or constructing boulevards and other roadways largely in the right-of-way of former divided highways

The purpose of the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), formerly known as Community Choices for Idaho, is to provide for a variety of alternative transportation projects to address the needs of non-motorized users and to advance the Idaho Transportation Department's (ITD) strategic goals of Mobility, Safety and Economic Opportunity while maximizing the use of federal funds. The program will provide an annual mechanism to solicit locally identified projects and leverage potential federal funding opportunities for sponsored projects.

The Idaho Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Curb Ramp Program is a state-administered program that provides funding for projects to address curb ramps on the state highway system. The goal of the program is to provide accessible facilities for pedestrians with disabilities while allowing local jurisdiction flexibility in meeting the required standards. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is allocating $500,000 of state funds annually for this program. Applicants can qualify for up to $60,000 in state funding to construct new or alter existing curb ramps on the state highway system to meet the requirements of the ADA. Funds can only be used for construction purposes. This program provides local communities more control over the design of pedestrian facilities in their communities and makes better economical use of dollars through the use of state funds while addressing accessibility on the state highway system

The Community Transportation Enhancement Program (CTEP) is a Montana program that funds transportation related projects designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects of Montana's intermodal transportation system. Assistance and financial support is availabe for projects concerning pedestrian and bike trails, scenic easements, historic and archaeological sites, historic highway programs, and landscaping and community beautification projects.

New Mobility West (NMW) provides training, tools and resources to help improve transportation systems. NMW peovides links to various recources including: funding sources for bike and pedestrian related projects, main street help, and guidence concerning how to engage local, state, and national transportation agencies.

The Platte River Trails Trust is a citizen-led non-profit organization. The Platte River Trails Trust seeks to develop a river pathway while preserving the scenic, natural and historic value of the North Platte River. The Platte River Trails Trust works with community partners to develop a network of trails that enhances our community`s economic vitality and quality of life.
